PHOTOS BOOK PROJECT

Title: Photo collection: Psychology in the Americas
Editors: Miguel Gallegos, Viviane de Castro Pecanha, Rubén Ardila & Naomi Koerner
Publishing Company: Interamerican Society of Psychology

Rationale:
According to the ancient Chinese adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Images, such as portraits or photos, offer us different ways of representing events or special moments. Over time, these images tend to get forgotten, lost in a bookcase or memory box. Often when the photos are found the events and people portrayed are unknown.
The idea of the photo collection book is to identify the different historical moments of psychology in the Americas through the exhibition of various visual representations (photographs, portraits, images, photos, etc.), along with brief contextualization of the events portrayed and the historical meaning given to them.

The photo collection book project is motivated by the celebration of the 70 years of the Interamerican Society of Psychology (ISP; 1951-2021). This book will give information on images of events and people playing significant role in the history of ISP; although, it will also portray moments and events not directly related to ISP or the Interamerican / Iberian-America region. Graphic representations of events, conferences, awards, letters, institutions, social meetings, emblematic book covers, and many other images will also be included in the photo book. The photographs can be from personal archives, published in books, magazines, minutes, and memoirs. It is also possible to combine different materials (letters and photos) encouraging critical reflections to understand the historical moment(s).

Objective:
Collect the visual images (photographs) representing the different historical events of psychology in the Americas, linked, although not exclusively, to the development of the Interamerican Society of Psychology.

6. Font: Time New Roman, 12, single space, justified.
