Harmon M. Hosch y María del Pilar Grazioso de Rodriguez

As approved by the Executive Board on July 26, 1999, the Articles of Incorporation of the Interamerican Society of Psychology provide that every two years the Board shall name two recipients of the Interamerican Psychology Award.  Of those, one award will be to an English/French-speaking psychologist and another to a Spanish/Portuguese-speaking psychologist. In both cases, the recipient will be an individual who has contributed to the development of psychology as a science and as a profession in the Americas.  The award shall consist of a plaque to be presented at the opening session of the Interamerican Congress of Psychology and the recipient will be invited to give an address at the next congress.

Members shall nominate candidates for the award and the Board of Directors will vote on the nominees. Any psychologist residing in the Americas is eligible for the award, except the members of the Board of Directors of the Society.  The awardees’presentations will be published in the Interamerican Journal of Psychology following editorial guidelines. During the first  months of 2011, nominations were solicited for the Prizes for 2011.  The criteria for selection of recipients from among the nominees were:

1.  The recipient had made a significant contribution to the development of psychology as a science and as a profession in the Americas and had an impact on the rest of the world.

2. This contribution has spread the image of image of the Society via its Congresses and Journal.

3.  The recipient has made an important contrition to the professional organization of psychology, and

4.  this contribution has enhanced the course and range of professional, academic, and research  activities of psychologists.

As a result of this effort, the Board of Directors of the Society chose Dr. Susan Pick as the 2011 recipient of the Rogelio Diaz-Guerrero Prize for a Spanish or Portuguese speaking psychologist and Dr. Judith Gibbons as the recipient of the English/French language prize.  These awards were announced and presented at the XXXIII Congress of the Interamerican Society held in Medellin, Colombia in July, 2011.

We look forward to the process by which the next awards are given at the XXXIV Congress to be held in Brazilia, Brazil in July of 2013.
